Anna Lou Newland, of Toronto, died at her residence on July 31, 2003, at the age 71.
She was born on May 26, 1932, in Toronto, the daughter of William Orvis and Lyla Belle (Adkins) Black. She was raised in Toronto and graduated from Toronto High School. On October 14, 1949, Anna Lou was united in marriage to Jack Guy Newland, in Yates Center, Kansas. They were later divorced. The family moved throughout the United States. In 1988, Anna Lou moved back to Toronto to be close to her parents.
Anna Lou was a homemaker, and a member of the Toronto American Legion Auxiliary, the First Presbyterian Church of Toronto and in her later years the United Methodist Church of Toronto.
She is survived by five sons, William Newland of Altus, Oklahoma, Donald Newland of Naugatuck, Connecticut, David Newland of Danbury, Connecticut, Robert Newland of McKinney, Texas, and Darren Newland of Aviano, Italy; two brothers, William “Hoyt” Black of Burden, and Darrell Black of Winfield; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M, Monday, August 4, 2003 at the Toronto United Methodist Church with Mrs. Karen Jesseph officiating. Interment will follow in Toronto Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in her name with the Toronto American Legion Auxiliary. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O Box 595 Eureka, KS 67045 which was in charge of service arrangements.
