Anna Lee Cammel, of Eureka, died on Monday, July 20, 2009, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 81, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on October 28, 1927, in Frankfort, Kansas the daughter of Howard and Marie (Wharton) Heleker. She spent her childhood years in Frankfort, and later in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Marysville, Kansas. After graduating with honors from Marysville High School in 1945, she married Harold Cammel after he returned from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1946. The family moved to Eureka, in 1961, where she established the medical records department at Greenwood County Hospital which she headed as an Accredited Medical Records Technician until her retirement in 1987.

She was active in her retirement and enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, and traveling with her husband until her health slowed her down. She learned computer skills after retirement and participated in daily messages with her family and friends. She liked to hear about each of their daily routines and was proud of all her family. She was an avid reader and a supporter of the new library.

Anna is survived by one son, Don of Summerville, South Carolina; one daughter, Lee Ann and husband, Dave Ramel of Shawnee, Kansas; four grandchildren, Timothy Cammel of Las Vegas, Nevada; Jennifer Ouellette of Orlando, Florida; Becky Ramel of Kansas City, Missouri; and Scott Ramel of Shawnee, Kansas; two great-grandchildren, Joseph “JD” Donald and Drew Ouellette, both of Orlando, Florida. Anna Lee was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Helen Durbin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 24, 2009, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Public Library. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
