Andrew Jackson Scott Cook, Jr., of Eureka, died on Sunday, December 24, 2006, at Medicalodge in Eureka at the age of 88.
He was born on October 19, 1918, the son of Andrew Jackson Scott, Sr., and Stella (Mitchell) Cook. Junior was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. He worked with his father as a carpenter before enlisting in the Army. He served his country during World War II with honor and dignity. He later worked as a carpenter, and had his own business producing violins, furniture, cabinets, and masonry. He retired at age 70, but continued working thereafter doing odd jobs for his friends.
On May 26, 1942, he was united in marriage to Muriel Mattie Love in Yates Center. They made their home in Eureka.
He was a member of the Christian & Congregational Church; VFW Post #2712; and the Kansas Old-Time Fiddlers, Pickers, & Singers.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel; two sons, Jerry Cook of Eureka; and Jack Cook of Arvada, Colorado; one daughter, Kathy Strecker of Moran; two brothers, John Cook of Eureka; and Jim Cook of Burlington; one sister, Ollie Slead of Eureka; seventeen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jacqueline; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka, with Pastor Sonny Rice of the All Around Cowboy Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
