Alma Faye Boardman of Olathe, formerly of Eureka, died on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at the Olathe Health Hospice House, in Olathe, at the age of 77.

She was born on November 18, 1940, in Parker, the daughter of Enos Dever and Ollie Dell (Smith) VanRoyen. She was raised near Severy and attended local schools, graduating from Severy High School with the Class of 1958.
On October 28, 1961, Alma was united in marriage to Francis “Lavern” Boardman in Severy. They made their home in Severy. To this union, two children were born.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Alma loved fishing, crocheting, bowling, sewing, painting, cooking, and baking. She was highly skilled at all of her hobbies and regularly made things for others. In her earlier years she would make clothes on commissions. She created countless afghans and delighted in giving these to others. She was an avid fisher and bowler. She began painting later in life and everyone enjoyed her many works of art. On holidays she would make peanut brittle, divinity, and other amazing goodies.
We will do our best to celebrate her 77 years as an amazing sister, phone switchboard operator, wife, mother, seamstress, waitress, secretary, painter, aunt, and grandma. We will never forget the lessons she taught us about being caring, thoughtful, good human beings.

Alma is survived by her sons, Frank and wife, Cheryl Boardman of Olathe; and John and wife, Dee Boardman of Overland Park; seven grandchildren: Brandon, Emily, Sophia, Rachel, Abigail, Connor, and Austin and his wife, Ashtin; one great-grandchild, Weston; and four sisters, Lilly Cheever of Eureka; Karen Myer of Eureka; Glenice Chastain of Eureka; and Linda Simons of Toronto. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Esther Eileen Meyer; and one brother, J.W. VanRoyen.
