Alice D. Howe
Alice Dollie (Young) Fowler-Howe, 92, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at the Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, Kansas. She was born November 27, 1921, the seventh of nine children, to Danial Jamson and Addie Mae (Ortwein) Young, in rural Russell County, Kansas. She attended school in Russell County.
On December 2, 1936, she married Fred S. Fowler in Hays, Kansas. Four children were born to this union. He passed away on December 1, 1946. She then married James E. Howe on October 5, 1947 in Drumright, Oklahoma. He passed away on June 4, 2004.
Throughout her life, Alice lived in many places - Kansas, California, and Oklahoma in the United States and in Columbia, South America. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She always put everyone before herself. She loved to travel, camp, and fish which she did lots of with her second husband, Jim. In her younger years, she worked in the grocery stores in Russell.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, 7 of her 8 siblings, both of her husbands, 2 sons – Steven in infancy and Donald in 1969, a daughter – Lucille in 2011, a step-daughter – Valdeva in 2011, and a step-grandson.
She is survived by a brother, Roland Young, Ft. Morgan, CO; a son, J.D. (Karla) Fowler, Virgil, KS; a son-in-law, Donald Anschutz, Lindsborg, KS; 7 grandchildren: Mark Foster, address unknown, Dixie (Jerry) Hinman, Morrill, NE, Sandy (Gordon) Keas, Plainville, KS, and Jay (Judy) Fowler, Hamilton, KS, Tambera (Martin) Currier, Salina, KS, Donald Anschutz Jr., Lindsborg, KS, James (Sonya) Anschutz, Lindsay, OK; at least 6 step-grandchildren: Laura (Doug) Kokanvich, Clarence, NY, C.J. (Kathy) Qualiana, Lockport, NY, Deborah (Ron) Franco, Lockport, NY, Josephine Qualiana, Hilton Head Island, SC, Richard (Stephanie) Qualiana Jr., East Aurora, NY, Christina (Keith) Dasham, Hood River, OR; 10 great-grandchildren; at least 19 step-great grandchildren; at least 7 great-great grandchildren; at least 8 step-great -great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
A private, family graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Shamrock Cemetery, in Shamrock, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
