Albert Leon Butler of rural Neal, went to meet his Savior on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, in Wichita, at the age of 87.

He was born on July 31, 1927, on his parents farm southeast of Eureka, the son of Harold O. and Hazel (Nelson) Butler. He graduated from Tonovay High School in 1947. He was united in marriage to Helen Louise Lilley on February 25, 1950 at the home of Reverend Johnson in Eureka. They lived for the last 50 years on their farm near Neal. He worked mainly operating heavy equipment for different construction companies, but his love was farming, ranching, and running his dozer.

He was a member of the Eureka Saddle Club, the Watershed Board, a 4-H horse leader, and the Greenwood County Soil Conservation Board.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen of the home; one son, Greg and wife, Ann Butler of Neal; and six daughters, Debra and husband, Bill Weingartner of Madison; Marsha and husband, Terry Dunham of Eureka; Belinda and husband, Larry Mead of Tonovay; Alisa Milner of Neal; Rebecca and husband, Rick Stever of Eureka; and Angela Butler-Clark of Neal; eighteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Jack Butler of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Richard Butler of Augusta; Wanda Frakes of Eureka; and Dixie Holm of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four siblings, Glen, Wayne, Dorthy, and Cap.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Evans of the Neal Evangelical Free Church officiating. Interment will follow at Star Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Neal Evangelical Free Church or to the Eureka Saddle Club. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
