Karen Louise Watson

Karen Louise Watson of Eureka, died on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 78.

She was born on January 10, 1944, in Caney, Kansas, the daughter of Howard and Mariam (Wagner) Kennedy. She was raised in Caney and graduated from local schools, before advancing to Pittsburg State University. She completed a Bachelor of Education and nearly completed a master’s degree. On February 14, 1964, Karen was united in marriage to Bill Dean Watson, in Nowata, Oklahoma. They made their home in Caney. To this union, three children were born. Karen was a primary school teacher and would do first grade or second grade. The family later lived at Goodland.

The family moved to Eureka in 1981 and Karen was a teacher at Severy. She retired in 2004. She was a member of the Caney Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bill of the home; their children, James and wife, Nancy Watson of Eureka; Brian and wife, Kristin Watson of Abingdon, Maryland; and Jennifer and husband, Matthew Peterson of Clay Center; five grandchildren; and one brother, Howard Kennedy, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
